I want to get to know the landscape of your life.
Clients often come to therapy to address what is currently present in their lives. As part of understanding your current circumstances, I will ask questions about your early life experiences. Sometimes clients feel intimidated or worried that they haven’t experienced anything “traumatic enough” to share with me. That’s not the intention here. My approach involves exploring your experiences over time, being curious about what you may have learned as a result, and considering together whether those beliefs may be interacting with your present day.
READY TO BEGIN OUR EXPLORATION?
We create an environment
for CHANGE.
When we garden, we consider the soil we place the plant in, the nutrients we give that soil, and also where we place the plant so it has the necessary amount of sun and shade. If the plant doesn’t grow, we don’t blame the plant. We find out what the plant needs and learn how to facilitate growth. Renowned psychotherapist Carl Rogers proposed that the therapist can hold space in a particular way for clients, which promotes the natural process of self-actualization.
My approach to therapy is client-centered, strengths-based, and trauma-informed. I believe that every person has innate worth, and individualized strengths and gifts, and observe that we come to therapy to unlearn the expectations we, the world, or others have placed on us. The process of self-reflection can be really uncomfortable and upsetting at times; I believe we can do hard work with an attitude of compassion.
